INNOMED-UP presents "ATHENS CIRCLES OF CREATIVITY: Routes of Creative & Circular Economy in Athens. The role of Creative SMEs in the Revitalization of Athens and the Promotion of Circular Economy in the Mediterranean city centers"
The research team of the National Technical University of Athens, lead beneficiary of INNOMED-UP research program in collaboration with Partner: Environmental Planning Engineering and Management firm (EPEM), organized a two-day open workshop in Athens, on 28 and 29 June 2021, under the title: “ATHENS CIRCLES OF CREATIVITY”, Routes of Creative & Circular Economy in Athens. The role of Creative SMEs in the Revitalization of Athens and the Promotion of Circular Economy in the Mediterranean city centers. Several key stakeholders of the program also participated offering their insights and useful contributions.

Ms. Arwa , Manal and Shaima’a from Jordan; are among the beneficiaries of the INNOMED-UP project, who support their families and protect the environment through recycling plastic bags, woods and other materials to produce syllable products such as handmade Purses, Handbags and accessories. INNOMED-UP campaign for the concept of Circular Economy in the Mediterranean.
INNOMED-UP project promotes the Circular Economy practices among the Cultural & Creative Industries (CCIs) SMEs instead of the linear economy, as a tool to promote green practices, save resources and improve the production and income of these SMEs. In order to do so, the project provide technical and financial support and connect these SMEs with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure modifying the legislation to support this category. Yousef and Tahani are pioneer SMEs working in the touristic area in Irbid supported by INNOMED-UP project to expand their business and produce innovative recycled products that are syllable and have good market value especially for the tourists They managed to utilize the project small grants to buy the equipment and machines that facilitated the production of new, attractive and innovative products from available recyclables which was not possible before due to lack of financial and technical resources. These women managed to utilize the project small grants to buy the equipment and machines that facilitated the production of new, attractive and innovative products from available recyclables in any house which was not possible before due to lack of financial and technical resources. Thanks to INNOMED-UP project which believed in these women and facilitated a promising opportunity through providing them with technical training, financial sub-grants, close follow up and mentorship until they managed to come up with these attractive products They are producing souvenirs out of un expected recyclables such as old olive oil bags, old books and magazines, new folders and wallets made from plastic shopping bags and others Through the project support, these women were enabled to buy specific sewing machines for olive bags or specific heat iron machine and embroidery machine for the plastic bags and many other resources.
